Elections for the Mayor of London and London Assembly are being held on Thursday 2 May 2024.

Elections
There will be three separate contests taking place at the same time. Whether you are voting by post, in person or by proxy, you will have three ballot papers to complete.
You will be voting for:
- The Mayor of London (pink ballot paper): Choose who you want to represent you as the Mayor of London.
- Constituency London Assembly Member (yellow ballot paper): Choose who you want to represent your local area (Brent and Harrow) on the London Assembly.
- London-wide Assembly Member (orange ballot paper): Choose who you want to represent the whole of London on the London Assembly.
In each of these contests, you may vote for one candidate only.

To vote in the London Mayor and London Assembly elections you must:
- be registered to vote
- be 18 or over on the day of the election (‘polling day’)
- be a British, Irish, qualifying Commonwealth or EU citizen
- be resident at an address in Greater London
- not be legally excluded from voting
How to register to vote
Registering to vote is required by law and everyone is responsible for registering themselves.
Ways you can vote
There are three ways you can vote in these elections:
- in person at a polling station or
- by post or
- by proxy
Voting in person at the polling station
Before polling day, you will be sent a poll card which will tell you where your polling station is. You can also use our polling station finder if you’re not sure.
You do not need to take the poll card with you to vote, but it will help polling station staff find your address on the voting register.
When you arrive at the polling station, you will be asked for your name and address. Staff will check you are on the register, check your photo ID and then give you three ballot papers.
Voter ID
You must now also produce photo ID in order to vote at the polling station. You only need to show one form of photo ID.
There are a range of photo ID documents that will be accepted. These include:
- Eligible passports
- Eligible driver’s licenses
- Multiple concessionary travel passes
- PASS cards
- A free Voter Authority Certificate

Please note:
- Only the original ID document will be accepted at the polling station. A photocopy version or a picture of the original document will not be accepted.
- Expired photo ID documents will be accepted as long as the photograph is still a good likeness of the elector.
- Staff will also be on hand to answer any questions you may have about the ballot papers or the elections.

Voting by post
If you have registered to vote by post, the ballot papers will be sent to your address.
How to apply
If you would like to apply for a postal vote for these Mayor of London and London Assembly Elections, the deadline is 5pm on Wednesday 17 April 2024. The quickest and easiest way to apply for a postal vote is online.

When to return your postal vote
You have until 10pm on polling day, Thursday 2 May, to return your postal vote using the freepost envelope.
If you have left it too late to post your postal vote, you can also hand this in at any polling station or to Brent Civic Centre, Engineers Way, Wembley, HA9 0FJ by 10pm on polling day, Thursday 2 May.
Lost or damaged postal vote
If your postal vote has been lost or damaged, you can collect a replacement between Friday 26 April and 5pm on Thursday 2 May. Replacements can be collected from Brent Civic Centre, Engineers Way, Wembley, HA9 0FJ.
To get your replacement postal ballot, you must bring photo ID and proof of address with you. If you cannot collect your replacement postal vote in person, or if you have any other questions, please contact us.
Voting by proxy
If you’re unable to vote in person you can ask someone to vote on your behalf. This is called a proxy vote.

The Returning Officer
The person with overall responsibility for these elections is the Greater London Returning Officer (GLRO). This role is performed by the Chief Officer for the Greater London Authority.
There are fourteen constituencies in London, made up by combining London boroughs. The local constituency is Brent and Harrow, comprising the whole of these two boroughs.
Each constituency has a Constituency Returning Officer (CRO) who is the Returning Officer for one of the member boroughs. The CRO for Brent and Harrow is the Returning Officer for Brent Council, who will be responsible for administering the elections in Brent and Harrow under the direction of the GLRO.
