Assisted bin collections

Assisted bin collections

If you have difficulty putting out your recycling or rubbish you can apply for an assisted bin collection.

We will collect bins from the doorstep or an agreed place and return them to the same place once emptied.

How to apply

Please use our online application form to:

  • apply for an assisted collection
  • tell us that the collection is no longer required

When completing the form you will need to tell us why you need help with your bins e.g. you have a disability or illness.

If there is someone at the address who can move the bins, you will not qualify for an assisted collection.

Alternatively, you can call: 020 8937 5050 and we will take you through the application process.

What happens next

Our Customer Services team will contact you within 5 working days to confirm arrangements.

Our contractor, Veolia, working in partnership with us, may also contact you and make a visit to assess your request. On this visit, you will be required to provide copies of the following documentation:

  • doctor's letter detailing why the assisted collection should be granted
  • copy of blue badge

If these documents are not produced when our education team inspect, we will not be able to proceed, so please make sure these are available.

The assisted collection list will be reviewed regularly by our education team to check eligibility and you may be contacted again in the future to see if you still need the service.

Time limited condition

If you have a time limited condition such as pregnancy or broken bones, or need to recover following an operation, a temporary assisted collection can be put in place.

When you no longer need assistance

You should cancel your assisted collection registration as soon as the condition gets better.

If at any time, a person is found living in the house that could move the bins; the assisted collection can be stopped immediately.

If you have mobility equipment you no longer need, find out how to dispose of it for free.
