Wembley High Road
Major roadworks are taking place on all sides of the Wembley Triangle, to allow for essential repairs. They are expected to finish around mid-May 2025. Only buses and emergency vehicles can use the running lane between Oakington Manor Drive and St Joseph’s Church. Find more information.

Traffic signs and CCTV enforcement are in place. Vehicles will be fined each time they enter the restricted area.

London Festival of Architecture (LFA)

LFA programme

The London Festival of Architecture (LFA) is a city-wide annual celebration showcasing the importance of architecture and design in London. The festival brings together practitioners and the public to engage with and explore the architectural landscape of the city through exhibitions, installations, talks and events.

This year, Brent Council is participating in the LFA and to deliver our week-long programme of events, we are also inviting partners and practitioners to apply for various opportunities.

Opportunities

We are inviting all Brent creative practitioners to apply for the opportunities below, to help us deliver a dynamic, inclusive and impactful one week-long event, encouraging the community to reflect and explore more innovative, sustainable, equitable and collaborative approach for regeneration and city making.

Artist/muralist/facilitator

Brent Council is seeking an Artist/Muralist to act as a facilitator for Past, Present & Future on 24 June 2024.

As a facilitator, the successful artist must contribute to this event by providing insights into the power of public art in creating a sense of community pride and belonging. They can speak about how murals can serve as landmarks for wayfinding and can help connect different communities by celebrating shared cultural heritage or highlighting shared values. The successful artist can also discuss how their work has helped foster collaboration and dialogue between different groups within a community and offer suggestions for how public art can be used to beautify and improve connectivity in the local area. Their experience can help inspire attendees to think creatively about how art can play a role in bringing communities together and creating a neighbourhood that everyone can take pride in.

The successful Artist/Muralist will receive £250.

Panel seat community members

Brent Council is seeking three creative practitioners who are Brent residents to participate in a discussion at Co-Existing Identities on 25 June 2024.

The successful creative practitioners will contribute to this event by sharing their unique perspectives and experiences on how art and culture can bridge divides and bring different communities together. Through sharing their own projects and initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion, they can inspire others to think creatively about how to create more inclusive cities. By participating in the panel discussion and site visit, they can offer new insights and ideas on how different cultures, communities, and religions can work together to shape a more cohesive and welcoming urban environment in Brent. Their presence on the panel will not only enrich the conversation but also help to showcase the important role that creativity and artistry can play in fostering unity and understanding among diverse populations.

Each creative practitioner will receive £250.

Textile artist or community member

Brent Council is seeking a creative practitioner with experience in fashion or textiles, to support We Restart at Growth Worth Remembering on 26 June 2024.

The successful creative practitioner will work with We Restart by bringing their expertise and knowledge of the local creative industry to the workshop and brainstorming session. They could share their experiences and insights on sustainable growth within the fashion sector, offering valuable input on environmental conscientiousness, ethical sourcing, and social responsibility. By leading discussions and guiding participants in producing their own fashion item, they can help ignite creativity and inspire innovative ideas that align with market trends and consumer demands. Their presence as a local artist can also help build a sense of community and collaboration, fostering a supportive environment for exchanging insights and envisioning creative solutions that will shape the development of Ealing Road and Alperton CEZ.

The successful creative practitioner will receive £350.

Performance artists or community members

Brent Council is seeking two separate performances by a female creative practitioner, female-led creative groups, or individuals delivering performances which explore themes around gender equality, feminism and empowerment of women, to perform at Women of Our Zone, on 27 June 2024.

Performances such as spoken word poetry, dance, music, comedy, film screenings, and theatre productions and other similar practises are welcome at this event. It is intended these performances will provide a platform for talented women to showcase their unique perspectives and talents, or the performances will explore themes related to gender equality or tell stories of female leaders and heroines. By highlighting the creativity and brilliance of women from diverse backgrounds, the event will not only entertain and inspire the audience but also promote gender and cultural diversity in the arts. Additionally, these themes will help create a supportive and empowering environment for women artists to thrive and connect with each other, ultimately fostering a more inclusive and vibrant arts community.

Each performance will receive £500.

Criteria and selection process

Submissions received will be assessed on three key criteria:

Connection with the area and Brent – in assessing this area, focus will be drawn to your personal connection to Brent including if you have lived, worked, or studied in Brent.
Experience - in assessing this area, focus will be drawn to relevance in the field, expertise, and experience in delivering similar events.
Skills and Knowledge - in assessing this area, focus will be drawn to any work that you have previously done and/or in the planning process within the ERA CEZ area, any knowledge and/or insights that can contribute to the ERA CEZ strategy and programmes and any alignment with the LFA aims and aspirations.

Each criterion will be rated on a scale from 1 to 5 with scores assigned based on how well they meet the standards requirements.
