Local authorities must ensure there are sufficient good school places for all pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
The Department for Education allocate capital funding to local authorities to create new school places and improve existing facilities for children and young people with SEND, in consultation with parents and providers.
This funding can be invested in mainstream schools and academies, special units, special schools, early years settings and further education colleges, or to make other provision for children and young people aged from 0 to 25.
We have published a short plan that sets out how we intend to invest our allocation. The plan will be developed and updated annually as new needs emerged.
Our Special Provision Capital Fund is combined with our High Needs Provision Capital Allocations (and plan) along with other funding opportunities that will maximise the specialist provision and support children educated and to be educated in Brent. Plans relating to individual scopes of work may also be subject to planning consent and may need to undergo specific or other consultations. We will continue to provide updates of our progress on this page.
