Brent Local Offer SEND inspection report
The January 2025 inspection of Brent’s SEND services found that children and young people with SEND generally have positive experiences and outcomes. The local area partnership is taking action where improvements are needed, including long wait times for assessments and updates to care plans.
The next full area SEND inspection will be within approximately 5 years.
Ofsted and CQC ask that the local area partnership updates and publishes its strategic plan based on the recommendations set out in the SEND inspection report.
Brent's Special Provision Capital Fund plan
Local authorities must ensure there are sufficient good school places for all pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Brent has been given £2.89 million of funding from the government between 2018 and 2021 to create new school places and improve existing facilities for children and young people with SEND, in consultation with parents and providers.
Celebrating SEND in Brent

Brent’s SEND Celebration 2025 brought together over 250 attendees to honour the achievements of young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). With performances, poetry, and collaborative projects from seven local schools, the event celebrated creativity, resilience, and the journey toward independence for students aged 14 and above.
Delivering better value in SEND
The Delivering Better Value in SEND programme (DBV in SEND) is aiming to support local authorities and their local area partners to improve the delivery of SEND services for children and young people whilst working towards financial sustainability.
55 local areas, including Brent, have opted to participate in the initiative and are being supported to identify the highest impact changes that can be made to improve outcomes for children and young people with SEND, and to optimise the use of finances.
