STAAR

Supporting the Assessment for Autism Route (STAAR)

STAAR is a new service that has been set up to complement the work of the very successful Brent Outreach Autism Team (BOAT).

The team supports families, children and young people who are under the care of Brent paediatrics or Children's Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and will be undergoing a neurodevelopmental or social communication assessment.

STAAR is currently a service for children up to the age of 16, or 18 if they are in a mainstream school sixth form.

What we do

The team’s work includes providing:

  • help for children and young people through the assessment process
  • advice, guidance and training for families
  • support for SENCOS, mainstream schools and early years providers

Referrals to STAAR

Once your child has been seen by a health professional they will speak to you about a referral to STAAR.

You will receive a welcome email from STAAR and we will then arrange an introductory with you. During this session we will plan together how best to support your child and family.
