In Portraits of Brent, we will explore and document the diverse cultural heritage of Brent's Southwest Asian and North African communities. This ongoing initiative aims to capture personal stories, experiences, and everyday life across the borough. The programme engages participants through creative workshops, photography, and portraiture to highlight the richness of Brent’s social and cultural landscape.
Concept and Objectives
The concept for Portraits of Brent is to create a visual and narrative record of Brent’s SWANA people and communities. The project focuses on using portraiture and personal stories to reflect the borough’s diversity, documenting traditions, memories, and experiences, and helping to stamp a place in a rapidly changing borough shaped by regular demographic shifts.
The narrative centres on celebrating the everyday lives of Brent residents, capturing moments that are meaningful to them, whether linked to family, community events, or cultural traditions. The aim is to encourage reflection and conversation about local heritage, while also building a collection of images and stories for future exhibitions and online archives.

We welcome members of the community to take part in Portraits of Brent. Participants will join six creative workshops and have their portraits painted, with all outputs featured in the exhibition.
