Since its foundation in 1953 (WAS) has always been a working group. Members with like interests and all levels of skill, meet weekly to work on a common subject. There is no tuition, but stimulating discussion in the friendly atmosphere allows the more experienced to help those with less expertise. Many members have found they gain as much benefit as from formal art classes. Three terms of Friday morning meetings run from 10am - 12 noon September to July. Each term includes at least one portrait, costume or life model, two still life mornings, a composition or design subject and a morning when members draw each other. Other mornings may include slide talks, demonstrations or workshops on art topics. Each term ends with an appreciation of the work produced through the term. Visitors are always welcome at the Society's meetings (perhaps to find out whether they wish to join!). The guest fee is £3 and visitors should bring their drawing and painting equipment to join in the working meetings. Throughout the summer members may attend weekly outdoor painting venues, many being in members gardens. Other activities include Exhibition visits and a Christmas lunch. The society also mounts exhibitions of members work at various venues. Wembley Art Society membership fee is at present £30 p.a. with reductions for those joining later in the year.
