Schools are rooted in local communities and are a vital part of Brent’s strategy to tackle climate change.
The Brent's Schools Climate Action guide was launched today which provides practical support to schools in taking climate action, getting not just pupils but the whole school community involved in green initiatives. The guide supports schools to develop their climate action plans, which is a target set by the Department for Education for all school settings by 2025 and, in turn, will contribute to Brent’s ambitious strategy to become carbon neutral by 2030.
Roe Green Junior School hosted the launch event and was joined by nine schools from across the borough, who presented pieces of art on what the environment means to them, as well as plays and poems on the environment.
Raahi Patel, a 10-year-old student at Roe Green Primary School, said: “I care for the environment and l want the future to be safe. I am an eco-warrior at school and help children to be more climate-friendly. We need to save the planet and encourage others. We all need to do more.”
Edi Cioaza, a 10-year-old student at Roe Green Primary School, said: “If climate change gets worse there will be more war, ice caps will melt and cause sea levels to rise. And our future will be destroyed. We need to stop buying single-use plastic bags and bottles. These end up in the ocean and destroy it.
