A new beginning for families with launch of new homelessness service

Families facing homelessness will be supported at the New Horizons Centre in Roundwood from today.

Brent’s family homelessness service has moved from the Civic Centre in Wembley to the New Horizons Centre in Robson Avenue. The newly upgraded location enables families to access other support services within the same building, such as Brent Hubs, immigration advice and debt support.

Brent’s Housing Options team will continue to offer families appointments to meet with staff who can help them at the New Horizons Centre. An emergency drop-in service will also be available from 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday, for families who suddenly become homeless and have nowhere to sleep that night.

“

Becoming homeless is a traumatic experience, which we do all in our gift to help residents avoid.

Cabinet Member for Housing and Residents Services

Cllr Fleur Donnelly-Jackson, Cabinet Member for Housing and Residents Services, said: “Becoming homeless is a traumatic experience, which we do all in our gift to help residents avoid. We know that the need for support is most acute in the south of the borough, and by taking our wraparound service to where demand is higher, we can help families closer to their existing home.

“We know our services work best when they are all under one roof. The New Horizons Centre offers holistic support from multiple partners, alongside a new café offering healthy meals, and even a community garden.

“As much as possible, we want to help families to continue living in their own homes, but when that’s no longer possible, we can help families with finding a place they can afford, or provide advice with employment and skills opportunities to boost household income.”

If you are a family in need of housing support, you can complete an online housing application or call 0208 937 2000 (choose option 2) to be booked in for an appointment at the New Horizons Centre.
