The sun is out, summer is just around the corner, and we’re ready to showcase the very best that Brent has to offer.
The latest edition of Your Brent magazine will be landing on your doorstep over the coming days, packed with local news and a fantastic line-up of events for you, your friends, and family to enjoy.
With the men’s World Cup now underway, it’s a great time to support Brent’s local businesses that are bringing communities together to watch the games. Let’s celebrate the summer of football right here in our borough. Be sure to keep an eye on our Summer in Brent programme for even more ways to get involved and make the most of the season.
At the Council, we continue to invest in what matters most, your health and wellbeing. This week, Cabinet approved £3.25 million to modernise Vale Farm and Willesden Sports Centres, making them more inclusive, accessible, and fit for the future.
We are also investing over £1.5 million this year in capital works across our local schools, improving buildings and facilities so that every child in Brent can learn in a safe, modern environment. That includes half a million pounds to repair the roof at Donnington Primary School, ensuring pupils and staff have the high-quality schools they deserve. This is about more than maintenance it’s about giving our young people the best start in life, so they can look to a future that's bright, ambitious and full of opportunity.
In other news, a new Housing Compact is in development - this will be a shared commitment between the Council and our social housing partners to deliver better homes, stronger communities, and a fairer future for everyone in Brent. Shaped by the voices of local residents, it focuses on what matters most, increasing the supply of genuinely affordable homes, improving quality and safety, preventing homelessness, and investing in clean, safe, thriving neighbourhoods.
I know that the past few weeks have been deeply difficult for many. The tragic death of 15-year-old Jamal Ringrose has had a profound impact on our community. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all those affected. A suspect has now been arrested and charged. This is an important step, and I thank the Metropolitan Police for their work. We continue to support the investigation and wider safeguarding efforts alongside our partners. Additional patrols, expanded CCTV coverage, and coordinated multi-agency action were swiftly put in place in response to this attack and to help keep our communities safe. If you have concerns about a child’s safety, please seek support through the Brent Family Front Door.
Brent is a resilient borough. Together, we will continue working to make our communities safer, fairer, and full of opportunity and hope for all.
Councillor Muhammed Butt, Leader of Brent Council
