We will be carrying out carriageway reconstruction works on High Street Harlesden between Tavistock Road and the Harlesden Jubilee Clock end of the road.
The works are planned to start on 14 September 2026 and will last approximately 22 weeks. Work will stop during the Christmas holiday period and restart in early January 2027.
The project involves rebuilding the road structure and resurfacing the carriageway to improve its condition and support future use.
Access during the works
Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the programme.
Deliveries to local shops and businesses will be supported through designated delivery areas located outside the closure at the Tavistock Road end of the High Street.
We are also working with affected residents and town centre management to help coordinate access arrangements.
Public transport
Buses will follow diversion routes around the road closures.
Bus stops within the closure area will be suspended while works are underway.

Parking arrangements
Loading bays at the Tavistock Road end of High Street Harlesden will be used for deliveries during the closure.
A section of parking bays on Tavistock Road will also be suspended while High Street Harlesden is closed.
Apart from this, there will be no changes to existing parking arrangements on surrounding roads.
Local businesses
Shops and businesses will remain open throughout the works.
Brent Council is working closely with local businesses to accommodate their needs and help maintain normal services during the construction period.
Working hours
Most work will take place during normal working hours. However, some night-time work will be required between 8pm and 5am
Due to the nature of the work, higher levels of noise are likely at times. We will do our best to minimise disruption and complete the works as quickly as possible.
What work is taking place?
The scheme will involve:
- excavating the full depth of the existing road structure
- building a new road structure and resurfacing the carriageway
- repairing existing drains
- installing new carriageway gullies to safely redirect surface water
The road structure has been found to be failing and in a state of disrepair. Short-term repairs are no longer suitable, and these works form part of a long-term investment to protect this important route for years to come.
How the works will be carried out
Work will be undertaken in approximately 60-metre sections using road closures. Each section will consist of:
- 30 metres of excavation works
- 30 metres for traffic management, deliveries, material collection and plant operation
Advance signs informing people about the works will be installed well before work begins.
