Each year, we have two dedicated teams who clear and recycle fallen leaves across the borough.
The leaf clearance programme usually starts in autumn and runs for around ten weeks. The teams focus on streets with the heaviest leaf fall, mainly in the south of the borough where there are many London Plane trees.
These specialist teams are separate from the regular street cleansing service. Their work is targeted to remove and recycle the largest volumes of leaves, rather than smaller amounts scattered across the borough.
Because leaves continue to fall throughout the season, streets may not remain clear even after the teams have visited. Leaf clearance continues until the end of the leafing season.
