A guide to planning your special day

You can choose between different types of ceremonies for your special day.

• A civil ceremony: a non-religious ceremony that can take place in a Register Office or any approved venue. You will be able to add your individual touches to the ceremony, such as music and readings.
• A religious ceremony: this can take place at a church, temple or other registered religious venues. It is important to contact the minister or administrator of the religious building to find out costs and arrangements.
• An overseas ceremony: if you want a destination wedding abroad, we recommend that you contact the embassy or consulate of the country that you plan to hold the marriage or civil partnership ceremony in for specific requirements. For further information, please visit GOV.UK.
• A renewal of vows ceremony: you can reaffirm your commitment to one another by choosing to hold a renewal of vows ceremony in front of friends and loved ones.
• A statutory ceremony: a brief, basic ceremony, held at a registration office. This ceremony cannot be personalised or enhanced and only 2 guests are allowed and they will also act as witnesses.

A civil marriage or civil partnership ceremony can be held in a Register Office or at any approved venue of your choice in England or Wales.

The Brent Register office is located under Wembley Stadium’s iconic arch and in the heart of one of the UK’s most culturally diverse communities. You can choose to hold your ceremony in our purpose built, modern Ceremony Suite or you can create a unique occasion in our landscaped Ceremony Gardens.

You can also choose from one of our approved venues in Brent.

Before getting married or forming a civil partnership, both you and your partner must give notice of intention at a Register Office, usually in the area where you live.

You will give notice by attending an appointment at a register office. During which, you will declare who you intend to marry or form a civil partnership with, where the ceremony will take place and that you are legally free to get married or form a civil partnership.

This is a legal requirement that must be completed at least 29 days prior to the ceremony. However, we advise that you give notice at least three months prior to your ceremony.

Whether you are planning a spectacular celebration or an intimate event, we can help you to enhance your special day with an array of additional options, including; photographers, webcasting and aerial photography.

You can also combine your civil or statutory ceremony at the Civic Centre with a celebration afterwards at one of our Civic Centre spaces or in a venue of your choice.
