Watching her children play, “I decided I wanted to be a mum to young children again, and, when they were older and not so dependent on me, I would become a foster carer.”
16 years on, we asked how her children felt about her decision. “They were really supportive, and that’s when I finally applied. We’re now a foster family, and we all play a part. It’s been wonderful for us. My children have learned so much.”
Barbara cares for children aged 0-4. “You can foster children of all ages, but I wanted to care for young children as, at that age, their minds are like sponges – they soak up information. You can help them understand the world and shape their early experiences. I enjoy capturing those moments, planting positive seeds so they carry that joy as they grow.
Fostering is about making a difference. When children feel loved and supported, they can conquer anything. Seeing their confidence and radiance is an incredible feeling.”
