Environmental funding schemes available to residents in Brent
We know of several funding schemes that might help you save energy. Please note that we can't guarantee funding, and each scheme has different eligibility criteria.
Energy Company Obligation (ECO)
The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) is a government energy efficiency scheme to help tackle fuel poverty and reduce carbon emissions. Energy suppliers in the scheme must fund measures which improve the ability of fuel poor and vulnerable households to heat their homes. This can include better heating, loft or cavity wall insulation, smart heating controls, solar panels, and even air source heat pumps.
You can check if you are eligible for funding for energy efficiency measures (such as loft and wall insulation) under the ECO scheme by:
- using the free online grant checker
- contacting any of the obligated energy suppliers on the Ofgem website.
- You don't need to reach out to your own energy provider. Alternatively, installers may contact you directly about funding opportunities.
Be conscious of scams. If you are unsure about an installer that has contacted you, email us and let us know at energy@brent.gov.uk
If you are not eligible for ECO through the standard eligibility criteria, you may be able to access the scheme through ECO Flex, which provides extra eligibility routes into the scheme. In London, households can be declared as eligible by the Greater London Authority, under their ECO Flex Eligibility scheme.
Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS)
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) provides grants to help replace fossil fuel heating systems with more sustainable options like heat pumps or biomass boilers.
How much you can get
- Up to £7,500 for air-source heat pumps
- Up to £7,500 for ground-source heat pumps
- Up to £5,000 for biomass boilers
For more details, eligibility criteria, and how to apply, visit the Boiler Upgrade Scheme page on GOV.UK for more information about the scheme, eligibility criteria and how to apply.
Great British Insulation Scheme
The Great British Insulation Scheme targets the least energy-efficient homes, helping to reduce energy bills and address fuel poverty. This scheme provides insulation upgrades for qualifying homes.
As well as supporting low-income and vulnerable households through the scheme’s low-income group, this scheme also helps those living in homes within a wider, general group.
The low-income group is for homeowners or tenants who receive at least one of the following benefits:
- Child Benefit
- Pension Guarantee Credit
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
- Income Support
- Tax Credits (Child Tax Credits and Working Tax Credits)
- Universal Credit
- Housing Benefit
- Pension Credit Savings Credit
The general group is for those households with properties that have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D to G, and which are within Council Tax bands A to D in England
It is important to note that eligibility for the Great British Insulation Scheme does not guarantee that an energy supplier or installer will decide to install energy-efficiency measures in your home.
Electric Vehicle (EV) Chargepoint Grants
If you’re looking to install an electric vehicle (EV) chargepoint at your home, the EV chargepoint grant can cover up to 75% of the installation cost for smart chargepoints at domestic properties across the UK.
By taking advantage of these funding schemes, you can improve your home’s energy efficiency and contribute to a cleaner, greener Brent.
