Renting your own place or a room in a shared house
There are a number of different websites where you can find properties available to rent in the UK. These are:
House or flat shares
In London, due to the high living costs, it is usual for people to share houses. If you are searching for accommodation as a single person, a more affordable option is to search for rooms to rent on websites such as SpareRoom and Ideal Flatmate.
You can also check:
- Local lettings agencies
- Private landlords
- Local newspapers
- Shop windows, community notice boards, supermarket boards

Emergency accomodation
If you become homeless, you might be eligible for emergency accommodation.
To qualify for emergency housing, you must:
- be legally homeless now
- meet the necessary immigration and residence conditions (also known as ‘eligible for assistance’)
- have a priority need for housing, or someone in your household must fall into a priority need group.
Emergency housing is a short-term option while we look into your housing situation.
