Brent pedals ahead with free cycle training. The Council is committed to providing free cycle training for residents of all ages, so more people can ride with confidence and stay safe on local roads.
Working with Transport for London, we’ve invested £500,000 over five years to keep high-quality cycle training going across the borough. Whether you live, work or study in Brent, you can book free lessons, from complete beginners to experienced riders looking to sharpen their skills. This is in addition to a further £22,000 grant from Active Travel England aimed at cycle training for children.
Free school sessions are available for primary and secondary pupils to learn road awareness and safe riding. As well as adult and family training, including one-to-one and group sessions, so parents and children can cycle together safely.
This expanded training comes hot on the heels of our announcement of 100 new bike hangars, with more on the way. It’s all part of our commitment to make cycling practical, safe and accessible for everyday journeys.

This free cycle training is about giving people the confidence to get on a bike and feel safe doing so.
Cycling is booming in Brent with residents making 1.5 million Lime bike trips in 2025. By offering free training, we’re helping everyone ride confidently and responsibly, while cutting emissions and supporting healthier lifestyles.
Councillor Krupa Sheth, Cabinet Member for Public Realm and Enforcement, said:
“This free cycle training is about giving people the confidence to get on a bike and feel safe doing so. By teaching children and young people how to cycle safely, we are helping the next generation build skills that last a lifetime. For adults, this training gives riders the skills they need to make the switch and feel confident cycling on Brent’s streets.”
Councillor Jake Rubin, Cabinet Member for Climate Action and Community Power, said:
“Less than 60% of households in Brent have access to or own a car, so it is vital that people have affordable alternatives for getting around. Supporting more journeys by walking, wheeling or cycling helps cut emissions, improve air quality and make neighbourhoods healthier places to live.”
This programme supports Brent’s Climate Emergency priorities around safer streets, cleaner air and healthier communities, while helping residents save money and stay active.
Free cycle training is available all year, subject to availability. Book online today:
