Batteries and vapes contain materials that can cause fires if they are thrown away in household bins. Please recycle them safely to help protect collection crews, recycling facilities and the environment.
Do not place batteries or vapes in:
- Your rubbish bin
- Your recycling bin
- Food waste bins
Even small batteries can cause fires if damaged or crushed.
Recycling batteries
You can recycle household batteries (AA, AAA, C, and D batteries) at:
- Most supermarkets
- Retail stores that sell batteries
- Battery recycling points in public buildings
Many shops that sell batteries are legally required to provide a free take-back service.
Small items collection
Batteries and other small electrical items (not vapes) with built-in batteries (radio, phones, laptops) can also be collected for free from your household by booking a small items collection services.
Bigger batteries
For e-scooters, e-bikes, e-cigarettes and car batteries, please bring them to Abbey Road Reuse and Recycling Centre (Abbey Road, London, NW10 7TJ)
Recycling vapes
Disposable and rechargeable vapes contain batteries and electrical components, so they must be recycled separately.
You can recycle vapes at:
- Retailers that sell vapes and electronic cigarettes, as part of a free 'take back' scheme
- Participating supermarkets and stores with vape recycling points
- Abbey Road Reuse and Recycling Centre
Vapes cannot be collected through Brent Council's small electricals collection service.
Before recycling:
- Do not break open or dismantle disposable vapes.
- If the battery can be safely removed, recycle the battery separately at a battery collection point.
- Keep damaged vapes away from household waste and take them to a recycling centre as soon as possible.
