Friends and family fostering is when a child can’t live with their parents and someone they know steps in to care for them. This could be:
- a grandparent
- an aunt
- an uncle
- a family friend.
It’s a legal arrangement supported by the local authority. It can happen if a child is already in care or might need to go into care.
If this is the best option, we’ll support you and the child with:
- a family meeting – to help everyone agree on the best plan for the child
- an assessment – to check if you can be a foster carer and make sure you get the support you need.
As a friends and family foster carer, you’ll care for the child with help and guidance from the council.
